By the 17th century, something started to take place, which was similar to a cultural initiation rite.

It as happened within the aristocracy and the upper bourgeoisie, particularly in Great Britain.

Young aristocrats (accompanied by their guardians) organized a great tour, which consisted of a trip through Europe (one that could last from several months to years), in order to establish contact with the cultural legacy of the classical antiquity and the Renaissance, as well as to get along with the aristocracy.
